Modeling Wiki
From ComPADRE Wiki
ComPADRE is working with the American Modeling Teachers Association and the Arizona State Modeling Instruction Program to develop interactive, Wiki-based collaboration tools for teachers using modeling in their classroom.
These pages are available for the development of this project.

DR-K-12 Proposal
An NSF proposal was submitted in March 2007 to support the creation and development of the Modeling Wiki, and the translation and editorial efforts needed to integrate existing Modeling curricular resources into the collaboratory format.
Initial Workshop
One of the first steps in the collaboration with ComPADRE and the NSDL is a workshop in the summer of 2007. This will bring together a working group of experienced modelers to learn about the possibilities and drawbacks of Wiki-based collaborations, work on prototypes for the resources, and plan the future of the effort.
Technical Development
Below are listed the technical and library-related issues that have arisen in discussions of the Modeling Wiki.
Editing and Loading
- What will be the process of translating existing resources (usually in Word) to wiki format. How easy will this be? How well will complicated formatting (tables, answer entry boxes, etc) be expressed in wiki format?
- How well will mathematical formatting be displayed in wiki form? Will there be barriers to instructors typesetting mathematics?
We should create a good, simple LaTEX tutorial to help people in the long run. A few links that may be useful:
Characters and Control Sequences
Mathematics Mode
Greek Letters
Test equation:
<math>E = mc^2</math>
- Are there tools for creating and editing graphics and diagrams?
AnyWikiDraw seems to be one, though experimental -- CD
Library Issues
- Can users upload their own materials to integrate into their filing cabinets?
- Should there be linking to resources on user's own web site rather than (before?) loading to the Wiki?
