Collaborations

AAPT/APS

• Talent Search - This is not a comPADRE project, but we've been helping the AAPT with it. Everything with this is now working on our development site except for registration. For whatever reason, APS has lost their registration pages, and so we will have to refactor and reconstruct these pages from the database.

ADS/ABS

• ADS/ABS linking is complete on PER-Central. We are considering implementing this feature on other collections: http://www.compadre.org/PER/items/detail.cfm?ID=3515
• Besides extending it, we will be looking at a way to cache this information so that it isn't looked up with each page load.

NSBP

• The NSBP is currently in the process of changing to a new Technical provider. Once this process is complete, we will be finishing up transparent login between the NSBP and comPADRE.

Native American Nation Tribal Conference

• Met with Dr. Lotsee Patterson regarding a presentation at their conference in October. We'll be contacting the NSDL to see if anyone else is interested.

SERC

• Preliminary interface is created. Lyle contacted Sean Fox regarding improvements to the interface. Additional discussions for convenient linking are also being discussed.
• Requested help from editors to create more ComPADRE-related examples for SERC. The goal is to have one or two dozen examples in interactive lecture/demos, Just-in-time-teaching, and Peer Instruction are wanted.
• A SERC-related workshop will be held during the Summer AAPT meeting. The process for recruiting participants for this workshop is underway. Participants will receive travel support to the AAPT meeting. This workshop will be the afternoon of Sunday, July 29 and the evening of Monday July 30.

University of Oklahoma

• Had a meeting with Dr. Myongho Yi, a library professor here interested in working with us to integrate a way to allow users to create arbitrary relations between objects. This may be quite interesting in working with the Modeling group that is interested in creating Curriculum Maps through materials.

• Added most of the ComPADRE Metadata Tutorial and Cataloging Best Practices to the Wiki.

• Search Recap
  • When you approve an item through choosing, it should be in the search after a minute or so.
  • Full text searching of included documents is also available now. When a keyword appears in an indexed full text search document, the document matches are indicated in the hitlist. Example: http://psrc.aapt.org/search/search.cfm?q=appreciation
  • An indexing option on the Admin Menu will allow you to do a manual re-index of your collection if necessary. This should rarely be necessary. A full re-index is conducted each night.
• Help Files: Lyle worked on getting Danny's help files ready for the collections in a preliminary fashion. These are available on staging. Example: http://staging.compadre.org/astronomy/services/help/
• Feedback form - If a message has an html link or script in it, it is now rejected with the following error message: "Due to increased spam, HTML is no longer allowed in the feedback form. Please edit your comment and try again." This has eliminated 80% of the spam. This will be a continuing process.
• The majority of recent work has been on the new cataloging/editing interface - login required We are making an attempt to make a more user-friendly interface that can be released to the public. Additionally, I think catalogers will be quite happy with the new wizard like setup.

Adopt a Physicist

Discussions with Kendra have shown that the newest Adopt a Physicist program will begin in the Fall.

• The Journal of Research in Science Teaching came online in September. We have a tagger going through the related items (Down to 49 in PER-Central) to link to the online articles. • We have imported all of the articles from the PRST Special Topics Journal and have set it up so that automatic imports of future articles can be activated.
