Modeling Wiki Workshop 2007 Logistics

Dates: July 5, 2007 (Evening) through July 8, 2007 (Noon) Place: Boulder CO

Notes from an April 27 conference call with NSDL staff regarding this workshop

Susan -- just did presentation in Philly and met two people in PA interested in modeling very interested in physics anc chemistry modeling-- Susan will send names on to Matt

Bruce -- let's work with 10 modelers and hangers-on

July 5-8 Hope to get people there by afternoon of 5th -- start in late afternoon of the 5th Get people oriented to what we are doing, set agenda, etc. Work through early afternoon on 8th so people can get out again (6th and 7th would be long days)

Breakfast --which meals provided? Bruce: Them more time together, the better. Not sure how to do this

Susan: Probably find to do BLD, given the numbers here. Could have dinner at a restaraunt for first dinner given budget -- ($25K for workshop all-inclusive) Saving on Net connections, etc.

Bruce: Make this pleasant for them, then. Like idea of getting out and around, etc. Perhaps wrap-up dinner, etc.

Elaine: Perhaps Chataquah -- against flatirons, old dining hall. Also concerts in evening, or a hike one afternoon would be nice.

Afternoons relaxed, more useful way to work

Bruce: also want people to get excited about this -- and leave

Susan: UCAR visualization lab tour -- could combine with this and cater dinner in environment -- nice opening night activity

Question -- reserved comet classroom (computer-supplied classroom environment) Web-based or software work? Bruce: explaining the work done here -- putting materials into a wiki Has buddying-at-one computer possibilities and good overhead/projector system and working tables Other option would be boardroom space with setup laptops Bruce: want flexibility -- lab flexibility most useful

Registration for people and travel arrangements: URL to Matt for registration Donna: arrangements for airfare July 4th -- busy time for flying here -- hotels, etc. Want to do this ASAP Bruce: Tentative date for names settled and registration in --End of May is good timeframe to get flight Will get hotel block ahead of time Will make arrangements for 15 rooms

Coming out earlier for holiday? Susan: Fine with overall budget, probably -- will make sure that supplies that people need are there as well Susan: Other thing -- URL and we can put other information on this page as well, can include documents and the like, including travel reimbursement documents, etc. Bruce: We'll put up basic skeleton now and add later Susan: Will copy Sharon on the email about the URL -- she is person to whom other documents get sent. Can also ask about audience-specific information for this -- these fields go to Sharon as well.

NSDL Overview? When and where? Susan/Donna: Give us an agenda as it comes together and indicate slots Bruce: Will be important to let people know what this means
