Adopt a Physicist
This effort in connection with the APS Public Outreach Office connects physicists with middle school classrooms. The first "Adoption" is online here.
ADS ABS
The Astrophysics Data System has developed an Education abstract service. This is now a federated partner of ComPADRE.
Here is an example of ADS results from a ComPADRE search on "cognition".
Lyle has also constructed an advanced search page that is meant to be a kinder, gentler search interface for the ADS.
Modeling Wiki
ComPADRE is working with the NSDL and the American Modeling Teacher's Association on the development of a collaborative curriculum development web site. This will be wiki-based, with the editorially approved materials going into the digital libraries so that library tools can be connected to them.
The planning of this project will be at a Workshop in July. Information about this project is available here. A very much alpha version of the modeling wiki is available here.
NSTA/NSDL/ComPADRE Webinar
In January, Cathy and Jan Mader held a web-based seminar on Electrostatics. This event was very well attended, very well done, and received very high praise from participants. We would like to continue to participate in these regularly during the next year.
The archive the the webinar is available on line
After the web seminar, there was active discussion on the NSDL's Expert Voices Blog
Reviews in PER
The first issue of the first volume of Reviews in Physics Education Research has been published. This is a partnership with Joe Redish from the University of Maryland.
The first volume is on reform of the calculus-based intro physics class, with four articles from leading PER-based curriculum developers making up the first issue. The goal is to have other Intro Physics articles each year, and start up other volumes on other PER-based topics.
SERC
The SERC Pedagogical Service is expanding work done in the Geosciences to other disciplines. Their work connects descriptions of research-based curricular methods to examples of class activities.
There will be a SERC/ComPADRE workshop at the Greensboro AAPT meeting on Sunday afternoon and Monday evening. We have 11 attendees signed up for this, with a couple more invitations outstanding.
Preliminary information about the event is here.
